My Philosophy on Education
I believe that each and every student who attends a class should have an individual and unique experience. Most everyone has a teacher who positively touched his or her lives in one way or another. A teacher that is able to touch an individual’s life is a great teacher. This is my philosophy on teaching.
Teaching is a cycle. It begins with teachers who should fully understand their importance of teaching and have a great knowledge of what they are teaching. A great teacher should love his or her job and set high standards for his or her self. This means that it becomes not only their profession, but their lifestyle. Students look up to them and if the teacher has a lifestyle which includes partying among other things, then that very well could influence students to do the same things. A great teacher will also care about his or her students. They should create an environment that, not only promotes learning, but makes it fun and exciting so that the students learn the material being taught. They should try to be available to help students whenever needed.
A great teacher has to earn the respect and trust of his or her students, so the students can feel comfortable in asking questions when they do not understand. This relationship must stay professional at all times. The slightest mistake can cost a great teacher his or her career.
Knowledge of the material being taught is a very important role in teaching. If a teacher does not fully understand what they are teaching, the student picks up on it. Teachers are always teaching the future. By this, I mean that the students being taught today may one day have finished college and his or her profession may come back to affect the teachers life. An example can be a doctor. The teacher teaches the student, the student finishes school and college, and then the student, who is now a doctor, takes care of his or her teacher or their family. That is how the cycle is created.
In choosing to become a teacher, I am choosing to hopefully impact a student’s life so that he or she may continue college and better him or herself. Teaching is not only a profession, but a lifestyle. As a teacher, I plan to make the environment fun while teaching the material so that it promotes the students to retain the materials being taught. I believe in being professional at all times. I also am choosing to live my life in a way that I would be proud of my students if they were living like me. This will set a good example to the students. I also intend to promote a higher education and the importance of attaining one. I wish to be that teacher that touches many students’ lives so they better themselves. This is why I want to be a teacher.
